Easing into July

With the general easing of restrictions, and as some of our volunteers are returning to work, we have been reviewing our AbiMeds activities. Our core service has always been taking telephone requests and organising collection and deliveries of medications and we are continuing this for the time being. In addition some pharmacies have asked us to deliver prescriptions for people who have not come via our system: we will be cutting back on that, so if people would like to have their medications delivered by our lovely cyclists they should request it via our phone line 01865 818351 rather than leaving it to the pharmacy to organise. NB some pharmacies have their own delivery service, so check with them.

We will continue to deliver on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but where possible please phone your request in the day before. However if it is an emergency please call anyway as we will always try to help if we can.

We will keep the situation under review, we know some people are still shielding and others don’t feel comfortable about going into shops and our aim of minimising queues remains, so we will continue doing what we’ve been doing for you for as long as we can and for as long as it makes sense to do so!

Thank You, AbiMeds Volunteers!

AbiMeds is a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, to help vulnerable people in Abingdon and nearby villages. We are a free community prescription delivery service, set up by Clive Elsmore and Hester Hand, with a pool of up to eighty volunteers. Delivery is by bicycle, organised by the Abingdon Freewheeling cycle club.

Well done to all the telephone answerers, hub sorters, cyclists and co-ordinations – you are utterly amazing!

AbiMeds Hits 1000!

On Friday (15th May), after just 5 weeks in operation, we delivered our 1000th package of medications. We actually reached 1059 by the end of the day so that’s a lot less people queuing! Well done to ALL the team – sorry there’s only a few in the picture.

Tesco pharmacy will be joining in next week, so that’s all Abingdon pharmacies covered. Hopefully the numbers will get better still – keep spreading the word!

Hello world!

Welcome to AbiMeds.org! This website went live on 5th May, 2020, and it is intended as somewhere to hold the most up-to-date information about AbiMeds – the Abingdon community medicine delivery scheme.
We have been rolling out the service for the Abingdon-on-Thames (Oxfordshire, UK) pharmacies one pharmacy at a time so this is where you’ll be able to see which pharmacies are currently being supported and how to request your medications.
